Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins visible just under the surface of the skin, predominantly found in the legs and feet. These veins occur when the valves inside the veins malfunction, leading to blood pooling and increased vein pressure.

Varicose veins are more prevalent than many realize, impacting one in every three individuals. These are enlarged, twisted veins that often appear dark blue or purple, visibly snaking beneath the skin's surface—especially on the legs. When the tiny valves within these veins—acting like one-way gates—malfunction or weaken, blood begins to flow backward and pool, causing the veins to bulge and twist like congested roads.

While they are often harmless, varicose veins can cause discomfort and lead to complications like ulcers or blood clots.
